Women!

May 31st, 2006 by killjoyako

something i just had to answer… hehe.

1. baket ang babae ang dame tanong?
- Kasi we are naturally inquisitive. oha.

- face powder, lip and cheek tint, eyeshadow, lip gloss, moisturizer, concealer, mascara, perfume, bronzer, toothbrush. (thats as far as my kikay kit goes)

4. nakapasok na ba kayo sa guy’s cr?
- oo. highschool. ang panghi ha!

5. pumupunta lang ba kayo sa starbucks dahil sa
poging barista?
- no, why whould i do that? that’s stupid.. we go there for coffee and in depth (and not-so-in-depth) conversations with friends and pseudo friends. but when alone, i go there to take a pee. hehe

6. hindi ba kayo nagsasawa sa "iced tea?"
- its better than coke. less sugar. but  id rather have water.

7. ano feeling ng tinititigan kayo?
- like ur being eaten alive. its disgusting. but sometimes when u like the one staring at you, it feels totally unnerving. (hehe parang euphemism ata yun ng first sentence)

8. eh yung may ibang klaseng titig?
- the same as above.

9. do you really keep "secrets"?
- if no one had secrets to keep, this would be a very boring world to live in.

10. baket galet kayo kay kris aquino?
- because she appears to be pretentious sometimes.

11. baket gustong-gusto niyo yung "a walk to
remember?"
- because it represents love in its truest sense.

12. baket pag-sinabi namin maganda and isang babae, sinasabi nyong "bola" or "bolero ka" …
- because 1) some girls tend to disparage themselves and not see their own beauty. or 2) some girls just find it hard to accept compliments gracefully

13. baket pag tumingin kame sa emailed nude
pics, malaswa na kame?
- hindi ba? better if nude girls pics and not guys pics, though.

14. ano pa ba?
- oo nga ano pa ba?

15. baket mataray kayo minsan?
- minsan? minsan lang? hehehe. for one, it can just be a defense mechanism. or kasi nakukulitan na kami. or naiinis na. or it just comes naturally for the personm which is not really a bad thing. better that one is matary and assertiove rathe than quiet and whimpering/simpering.

16. baket kayo nagpupuyat?
- because we think about a lot of things and yes, men are one of them.

17. ano gusto niyo sagot ng guy pag tinatanong
niyo kung "payat ba or tumaba ako"
- the truth. but the thing is, since society says we should all be reed thin and anorexic, most girls tend to get pissed by "tumaba ka" answers.

18.a. bakit ang tagal ng mga babae kapag
pumupunta sa banyo?
- because they are:
  waiting in line
  doing a number 2
  re-touching their face
  combing their hair
  chatting with friends

18.b. bakit kelangan na in groups?
- i dont know. i dont do that too often. goin to the cr doesn’t have to be that scary.

19 bakit mahilig kayo sa pink?
- because its a nice color. red’s prettier though.

20 bakit ang hilig tumili ng mga babae?
- kasi na eexcite siya, or nagulat siya, or natatakot siya, or natutuwa siya. girls are more expressive. more emotional. more verbal. more noisy.

21 bakit kayo moody?
- bakit? babae lang ba ang moody?

19. batet kayo nangungurot! masakit yun ah…:(
- because you’re so cute!!!
- pero hindi ako nangungurot, instead nang papalo ako.

20. mahilig kayo magpalibre..
- share your blessings, ika nga.

21. ano ang definition niyo ng "makulet"?
- when men keep on calling or texting kahit sinabihan na na ayaw nung babae
- when people keep on asking the same question over and over again

22. aminin niyo kayo nag-pauso ng "me" na text
lingo i.e. inaantok na me eh.
- i hate that. whoever invented that "ME" in texting should get himself/herself hanged for butchering the english grammar

23. sama mo na rin *** "smiles" na letter u / ,
- because it somehow denotes that the texter is happy or glad or in a good mood. there goes the emotional factor of women.

24. tsaka :hmp:? kayo nagpauso nun ryt?
- Hmmp. hindi ah!

25. hindi talaga kayo nagsasawa sa iced tea?
promise?
- sige, next time oorder ako ng weng weng..

26. kayo lang ba may karapatan gumamit ng lip
balm?
- hindi. i have straight guy friends who use it.

27. mabango ba talaga ang clinuque happy?
- oo pero nakakasawa siya

28. do you really keep secrets? ganun?
- ofcourse. opening up to someone will depend on how deep the relatonship is.

29. baket defensive kayo madalas.
- because we’re paranoid.
- for self resrvation.
- to save face
- because we’re sometimes guilty

30. ano ibig sabihin ng "di masyadoh"
- total opposite.

31. "ewan ko sa yo?"
- nakukulitan na ako sayo.
- bakit hindi mo makuha yung sinasabi ko? akala ko ba matalino ka?

32. "bahala ka"
- ayoko nang makipag argue. sinabi ko yung gusto ko, pero taliwas sa gusto mo, so ikaw na mag decide kung ano gagawin mo. minsan it could mean na napipilitan lang ako pero gusto din naman.

33. "K" lang
- ok lang. duh.

34. "huwag mo ko kausapin"
- huwag mo ko kausapin.. for the mean time. let me cool off my head first kasi pag nangulit ka pa, patay kang bata ka.
- or huwag mo na ako kausapin. period.

35. "wala lang"
- kapag tinatago ang totoong sagot, or kapag nang-fi-fish. =)

36. "basta"
- im not gonna elaborate on what i told you because i know you’re a smart person and that in time you’re goin to understand me.

Pedigree

April 23rd, 2006 by killjoyako

For the past two days, I’ve been to the Pedigree Bench Show at the Fort NBC tent. Nothing beats an afternoon surrounded with these purebred dogs! Sobrang saya ng experience !! (and P.A.W.S. was there too) =) Too bad coz today’s the last day of the show. Looking forward for next year.. =)

The following are my top picks for my future purebred dog ownership. Toydogs not allowed. Hehe. (Toydogs are cute. Pero yun lang. Cute lang sila. Para sakin hanggang dun lang sila. Period. Wala na. Hehe..)

Dsc00721_2 Top 1: Siberian Husky - The Best! (Intelligent, agile and regal)

General Appearance
The Siberian Husky is a medium-sized working dog, quick and light on his feet and free and graceful in action. His moderately compact and well furred body, erect ears and brush tail suggest his Northern heritage. His characteristic gait is smooth and seemingly effortless. He performs his original function in harness most capably, carrying a light load at a moderate speed over great distances. His body proportions and form reflect this basic balance of power, speed and endurance. The males of the Siberian Husky breed are masculine but never coarse; the bitches are feminine but without weakness of structure. In proper condition, with muscle firm and well developed, the Siberian Husky does not carry excess weight.
            Dsc00718

Temperament

The characteristic temperament of the Siberian Husky is friendly and gentle, but also alert and outgoing. He does not display the possessive qualities of the guard dog, nor is he overly suspicious of strangers or aggressive with other dogs. Some measure of reserve and dignity may be expected in the mature dog. His intelligence, tractability, and eager disposition make him an agreeable companion and willing worker.

Dsc00727_1 Top 2: Labrador Retriever
General Appearance
The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of pursuits beyond the hunting environment.

The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an "otter" tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop; powerful jaws; and its "kind," friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament.

Above all, a Labrador Retriever must be well balanced, enabling it to move in the show ring or work in the field with little or no effort. The typical Labrador possesses style and quality without over refinement, and substance without lumber or cloddiness. The Labrador is bred primarily as a working gun dog; structure and soundness are of great importance.

Temperament
True Labrador Retriever temperament is as much a hallmark of the breed as the "otter" tail. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. The Labrador has much that appeals to people; his gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability make him an ideal dog.

Dsc00725Top 3: German Shepherd (they might seem too fierce. But that’s why i like them!)

General Appearance
The first impression of a good German Shepherd Dog is that of a strong, agile, well muscled animal, alert and full of life. It is well balanced, with harmonious development of the forequarter and hindquarter. The dog is longer than tall, deep-bodied, and presents an outline of smooth curves rather than angles. It looks substantial and not spindly, giving the impression, both at rest and in motion, of muscular fitness and nimbleness without any look of clumsiness or soft living. The ideal dog is stamped with a look of quality and nobility–difficult to define, but unmistakable when present. Secondary sex characteristics are strongly marked, and every animal gives a definite impression of masculinity or femininity, according to its sex.

Temperament
The breed has a distinct personality marked by direct and fearless, but not hostile, expression, self-confidence and a certain aloofness that does not lend itself to immediate and indiscriminate friendships. The dog must be approachable, quietly standing its ground and showing confidence and willingness to meet overtures without itself making them. It is poised, but when the occasion demands, eager and alert; both fit and willing to serve in its capacity as companion, watchdog, blind leader, herding dog, or guardian, whichever the circumstances may demand. The dog must not be timid, shrinking behind its master or handler; it should not be nervous, looking about or upward with anxious expression or showing nervous reactions, such as tucking of tail, to strange sounds or sights. Lack of confidence under any surroundings is not typical of good character. The ideal dog is a working animal with an incorruptible character combined with body and gait suitable for the arduous work that constitutes its primary purpose.

Random Thoughts

March 23rd, 2006 by killjoyako

Somewhere along our lives, important things, or even important people are taken away from us to make us better beings. They are the ones meant to teach us. The ones destined to shape us to be better and stronger individuals. The ones who brought out the best in us. They might have left us with broken hearts and bruised self-esteem or egos, but one thing is for sure… somewhere, sometime in our past, this person came into our lives leaving us with tons and tons of life-altering lessons. Many years of silence will eventually pass and lead us to this "yesterday". It could still hurt an inch, but it wouldn’t erase the fact that the pains of the past made us a better, and hopefully, a happier person now.

Just Taxes

March 23rd, 2006 by killjoyako

The trouble with being a breadwinner nowadays is that the government is in for such a big slice.. –Mary McCoy

How many instances have we, as citizens of the Republic of the Philippines, quietly complained, deeply sighed, occasionally hissed out of exasperation and dismay to ourselves or to our accountants when income taxes are being filed and paid for? How many times have some of us muttered, “What am I paying this government a lot for?”

Is it imagined or real when there is a persistent resistance in letting go of something one has worked hard for and rightfully earned to a system and a government which are perceived to be mired with graft and corruption? Is it immoral to have a heavy heart when we should willingly and uncomplainingly divest ourselves of income earned and productivity compensated?

We pay taxes for the common good- the good of the Filipino people. Essentially, what good will our money do if it only serves the good of a few people, the depth of a few pockets, the accounts of a few Jose Velardes and Jose Pidals?

If Filipinos feel their money goes to productive endeavors and nation building tasks, such as infrastructure growth, healthcare improvements and agricultural productivity, the sense of financial loss is balanced (even satisfied) by the prospect of community gain and societal growth. But for many of us, the sense of loss is aggravated by the perception of absence of any foreseeable gain.

We derive relief and consolation from the expectation that our hard-earned money will be put to good use. In the Philippines, good use nearly borders on what dreams are made of. We dream of the cleanliness of Singapore’s streets and subways. We dream of substantial government subsidy for health care in the United States. We dream of the infrastructure and technological advancements in many progressive European countries.

Back here, we do not dream big. We just hope real. We just think realistic. We just crave for the basic. We just want clean toilets. We just want basic education. We just want to walk around safely in our communities. We just want floods controlled, garbage collected, roads repaired, traffic decongested, jobs created, crimes prevented or prices of commodities made affordable.

The injustice of this all is when leaders who are supposed to lead us to economic stability plunge us to near bankruptcy. Our leaders bring us closer to fiscal crisis and we have to bail them out of it. Our leaders keep on borrowing and we have to be diligent in our paying. Between our paying and the government appropriating and allocating, someone else is pocketing, extorting and cheating.

And so to generate more revenue and avert a fiscal crisis, the government has to collect more – from Juan dela Cruz, followed by Atty. Juan dela Cruz, Dr. Juan dela Cruz, Nurse Juan dela Cruz and the others –by way of value added tax (VAT), lifestyle checks, etc.

Paying taxes is both a duty and a sacrifice. Our propensity to resist is fueled by the greed of a few. Our desire to contribute to nation building is hampered by the mindless spending of others. How can we imbibe selflessness if what we witness is senselessness? How can we preach honesty when they practice deceit?

Will Rogers said it most appropriately: “People want just taxes more than they want lower taxes. They want to know that every man is paying his proportionate share according to his wealth.”

Dole Out System

February 7th, 2006 by killjoyako

“We do not need more speeches about fighting poverty, moving forward the Filipino, or faith in the Filipino! Teach the Filipino and he will fight poverty himself. Show him the way and he will move forward on his own two feet. Give him the opportunity to solve his own problems, and he will learn to have faith in himself.” (Max Soliven “By the Way”, Manila Times)

Dole out system.

To hell with the consequences, kumbaga. Edi, dito ko nalang ilalabas. Wala naman yata siyang computer sa bahay niya e..

Foreboding

October 5th, 2005 by killjoyako

She has always been seen as the upbeat, effervescent, smiling, unselfish friend-daughter-educator- nurturer. What they have yet to realize is the loneliness gripping her being every now and then. Her loneliness recurs not because of PMS, which has always been their hypothesis. It recurs during times when she is discouraged or pressured, when things do not seem to move, when the feeling of “what’s the use?” creeps in. The feeling usually comes at night. During the day there are so many outward stimuli that her self is temporarily forgotten. There is so much to see, so much to hear, so many people to deal with, so many problems to handle and so many answers to give questions that her self becomes secondary. This is probably the reason why she generally says things are ‘all right’ when you ask her about her problems during the day.

When night falls, there are a few outward stimuli – the cat’s fur on her calf, the softness of the sheets, the comforting darkness, the awaited messages on her mobile phone. Then the only reality seems to be herself. Utter darkness leads to deep introspection, with the focus on her person. At such a time she feels the weight of her loneliness, of her (predestined and foreboding) distance from her loved ones; and the feeling may border on self-pity. And when the day has been bad or stressful, tears stream from her eyes. No cries or whimpers, just clear salty tears. And it seems to be her only release. She knows she has to release it for fear of becoming less effective in healing sick bodies and molding young minds.

She realizes that her opinions have gotten stronger because of things learned thru experience, yet there are still times of doubt - at herself and her decisions. One minute she is secure, then the next minute, insecure. She laughs and cries with the greatest intensity. Yet she feels scared, alone and confused. She gets her heart broken and wonders how the people she loves (and loved) could do such damage to her. She can’t figure out why hurtful events had to happen, knowing she isn’t a bad person. She has decided to be extra careful not to entirely put her guard down, knowing she might get stung all over again. But she is not as strong-minded as what she seems to believe. The walls she built around her are starting to cave in, and she is caught unaware. And she doesn’t seem to mind anymore…

She knows that change will be her enemy, and she will cling on to the past and to her home with dear life but will soon have to realize that the past will probably –or eventually- drift away, that leaving home is inevitable, and there is nothing left to do but stay where she is or look forward… to a future that is uncertain.

Spoliarium

October 5th, 2005 by killjoyako

** an essay I wrote for Humanities 2 in UP…

Spol_2

The Spoliarium is perhaps the single most important and recognized work of art for or by a Filipino. Painted by Juan Luna, one of our national heroes who was persecuted on suspicion of supporting the Katipunan, the 425 x 775 cm oil on canvas brought honor to the country by winning the first Gold Medal at the Exposicion Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1884.

The painting gives a picture of the hideousness experienced by Filipinos in the nineteenth century during the Spanish colonization of the Philippines, emphasizing human rights desecration. Luna communicated his patriotism by painting one masterpiece to make clear to Filipinos that they do not deserve the oppression they were experiencing. He effectively expressed his message by showing a relationship of one element with each of the rest. One such element is color, wherein he established a well-proportioned association between the reds (in the center of the painting), the greens, and the black background. Light is balanced; light colors were used in the left side of the painting, in contrast to the dark shades seen in the right. As a result, a division is clearly shown– half showing the horror of the dragged corpse, and the other half showing the mourning of a lady. Attention is drawn by the main point of interest because of these contrasts, among others. Through the depiction of the slaves’ bodies, Luna expressed tremendous action and life. He painted the bodies (nine times –not seven, as the usual- bigger than the head) larger than any of the other parts in the painting, hence, dominantly attracting attention from the audience. The diagonal lines dominate the painting most of all, introducing excitement, and action, and movement. Asymmetrical patterns provide a point of comparison between light and darkness, the gruesomeness and the mourning. The vigorous brushstrokes, the highlighting, the dramatic chiaroscuro or the interplay of light and shadow, and the nervous, jagged lines are of heroic proportions. The style overwhelms the senses and the emotions by its sheer physical magnitude and dynamic presence.  All of those mentioned point to the message of the butchery — the violation of Filipino human rights.

The visual expression appeals to the emotions in a broad, sweeping, compelling way.  In Spoliarium, one hears the noise of the crowd, the shouts of the slaves, the metallic clanking of the dead soldiers’ armor, the sobbing of the orphans, the murmured prayers. It engulfs you. It has the kind of effect that helped rouse the Filipino desire to rise against political oppression, further edifying its status as a nationalistic symbol.

Klutz (Part One)

August 23rd, 2005 by killjoyako

I grew up in Pandacan. My childhood was a very eventful chunk in my life. It was when I thought everything was humongous (I though I lived in a mansion) and amazing and perfect. My family lived in an apartment unit in Zamora Street. It has enough space for a family of six (I have 3 pretty sisters and 2 loving parents) but when my two teenage cousins and two nannies camped in, it was an instant evacuation center. But all the same, I though I had the universe in that apartment. And yeah, I had more important things to think about, what with the hectic schedule that I had!

8 AM – I wake up upon the vigorous prodding of our horrible nanny Ate Lydia. “GISING NA!!! MAY PASOK KA PA! PALIGUAN NA KITA!!”

9 AM – I am free from all the nasty germs and dust and soil my skinfolds harbored, coming from the rough and tumble games played the day before. I have endured the inhumane rubbings of labakara and Safeguard on my skin, the Johnsons “No Tears” shampoo on my hair, the cardboard taste of sausage and ham. And now I’m ready for school.

9:30 AM – Commuting to JASMS with my Ate Lydia. She would always make sidestops to tiangges along the way, causing my first tardiness case in my whole academic life.

Anecdote Number 1: Taft Avenue: Riding empty Harrison Plaza-bound jeep. Me in my newly- pressed, pristine white JASMS uniform. Me wanting to play adult, asked Ate Lydia if me can give fare and talk to driver for my first time. Ate Lydia handing me three pesos for jeepney fare. Jeepney moving insanely fast. Me not wanting to risk falling to my face, slides butt along seat to the point directly behind driver. Me proudly exclaiming, Manong, bayad poooh! JASMS!” A while after I exclaimed, Manong, para pooooh!” Driver stops at our stop and we climb down. Me, proud of my new experience, smiles. Ate Lydia, looking at my butt, laughs.

Anecdote Number 2:  Taft Avenue, in front of PGH, waiting for Harrison Plaza-bound jeep. Jeep stops in front of us. Ate Lydia helps me climb first. Feeling like a queen, the passengers helped me as well, probably after seeing how I was scrambling like a klutz. First foot…then second foot up the vehicle’s metal support. Then all of a sudden, Vrroooooooooooom!!! The jeepney accelerates and zooms like an ambulance. Ate Lydia was left behind! The passengers and the driver were kidnapping me!!! I was set up by my own nanny!!!

From then on I never trusted maids. They are very dangerous.

10 AM – Start of English period, Grade 1, Section 2. Teacher: Mrs. Jamuat. Everyone sitting on mini candy-colored metal chairs with mini candy-colored metal tables. Lesson for the day: Capital letters and small letters.

Written on the black board, with a drawing of the object in the middle:

Apple   apple

Mrs. Jamuat: What is the difference between Apple and apple? (chalked fingers pointing at both words)

Section 2: stares blankly at the board, seeing the same thing.

Mrs. Jamuat, growing impatient: What is the difference between Apple and apple? (using a chalk, encircles ‘A’ in Apple and ‘a’ in apple)

Section 2: stares blankly at the board, seeing the same thing.

Mrs. Jamuat: Ang dali dali ng sagot hindi nyo maisagot??? Akala ko ba matatalino kayo??!? LAHAT KAYO MINUS 5!!!

Me (raising my hand): TEEEEEEEEACHER!!!!

Mrs. Jamuat, relieved: Yes, Nikki? You know the answer?

Me: Uhmm hindi po… May I go out??
